O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint with clear and actionable carbon reduction goals, aligned with the Haryana State Action Plan on Climate Change and global sustainability targets. The university aims to achieve long-term carbon neutrality by systematically addressing emissions across all three scopes of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.
JGU’s carbon reduction goals for Scope 1 (direct emissions) focus on minimizing emissions from on-campus fuel combustion, diesel generators, and university-owned vehicles. The university plans to achieve this by expanding renewable energy infrastructure and transitioning to cleaner energy alternatives. For Scope 2 (indirect energy emissions), linked to purchased electricity, JGU’s goal is to significantly lower emissions through widespread adoption of solar power and energy-efficient technologies. Regarding Scope 3 (value chain emissions), which encompass indirect emissions from commuting, business travel, waste, and supply chains, JGU is working toward comprehensive reductions by developing detailed assessments and targeting sustainable procurement, low-carbon travel options, and enhanced waste management.
The university’s overarching carbon reduction goals include cutting reliance on fossil fuels through solar energy adoption, reducing energy-related emissions with efficient systems, and promoting low-carbon transportation options. Looking forward, JGU aims to strengthen its Scope 3 efforts by encouraging eco-friendly supplier practices, incentivizing public transport and virtual conferencing, and implementing innovative waste reduction strategies. Through these focused goals, JGU is committed to measurable progress toward carbon neutrality and a sustainable future.
