Proactive Mental Health Care at JGU

At Jindal Global University (JGU), we recognize mental well-being as vital to a thriving campus community. Our proactive approach integrates education, accessible services, and inclusive support to empower students, faculty, and staff. By prioritizing mental health, we contribute to sustainable development and health equity, ensuring everyone has the resources to succeed academically, personally, and socially.

Centre for Wellbeing and Counselling Services

CWCS is dedicated to promoting holistic well-being and mental health among all JGU students. The CWCS team consists of experienced and caring professionals, and is committed to providing confidential and non-judgmental support to address any emotional, psychological, or personal concerns students may encounter.

Services offered by CWCS:

  • Counselling sessions
  • Crisis support: The centre is prepared to assist in times of emergencies, offering immediate support and guidance when students need it the most. In case of emergencies, CWCS provides 24 x 7 helpline services.
  • CWCS volunteer program: A structured initiative that encourages students to participate in activities that are aimed at providing the JGU community with a platform to work towards others’ mental health. The program provides an opportunity for students to offer their time, skills, and expertise to support a cause they care and are passionate about.
  • CWCS-DSC: JGU endeavours to harness an inclusive learning environment for all its students. Students with a known disability, requiring different academic and other accommodations are required to register with the Disability Support Committee (DSC). The Committee provides a range of accommodations to the conditions identified by the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, Mental Health Care Act 2017 and UGC Guidelines. The CWCS office assists the DSC with all the requests related to psychological support.
  • CWCS – COGSASH: COGSASH aims at creating and maintaining a community in which students, teachers, researchers, faculty members and non-teaching staff can work in an environment free of all forms of sexual harassment. The committee has its own framework and procedures as per POSH Act. CWCS supports and extends its services to COGSACH at various levels.
  • CWCS-USDC: JGU is a community of scholars dedicated to research, academic excellence, the pursuit and cultivation of new knowledge, and robust intellectual exchange among students. In support of this mission, every student of the university makes a commitment to strive for personal and academic integrity; to treat others with dignity and respect; to honour the rights and property of others; to take responsibility for individual and group behaviour; and to act as a responsible citizen in a free academic community and in the larger society. Any student conduct, on campus, of individuals or groups, that threatens or violates this commitment may become a matter for action within the University’s system of student discipline.

The University Students Disciplinary Committee investigates such matters as per JGU Code of Conduct for Students. They can request a CWCS representation in particular cases. The committee’s post deliberations may have students attend mandatory sensitization sessions at CWCS. The Chief Proctors Office shares such communique with the CWCS office.

Sukoon Centre for Mental Health

We are proud to introduce the Sukoon Centre for Mental Health, a transformative collaboration between JGU’s Centre for Wellness and Counselling Services (CWCS) and Sukoon Health, a leading mental hospital chain in India. This partnership provides students with high-quality, professional mental health support, responding to a recent study where 52% of JGU students reported limited access to mental health resources. At the core of this initiative is Sukoon’s Educate, Detect, Treat philosophy, ensuring students receive the right care at the right time. Located on campus, the Sukoon Centre offers:

Compassionate and Confidential Therapy: Free, one-on-one sessions with qualified and compassionate on-site counselors, therapists, and mental health professionals to address stress, anxiety, depression, academic challenges, or personal distress, tailored to individual needs.

Screening Services: Proactive monitoring for early intervention, ensuring timely support for all.

Workshops and Events: Empowering programs, awareness sessions, and interactive events designed to build resilience, promote mental well-being, and foster a supportive community while breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.

Open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Centre also features weekly visits from a specialized psychologist, with additional appointments available as needed. For urgent situations, our 24/7 ambulance service and local mental health partnerships ensure immediate care.

Education and Awareness

Education drives our mental health strategy. Alongside Sukoon’s offerings, JGU hosts workshops, seminars, and peer-led discussions on stress management, mindfulness, and resilience. These initiatives, guided by mental health professionals and student ambassadors, aim to reduce stigma and promote openness. The Sukoon Centre’s events and awareness sessions further enhance this effort, empowering individuals with practical tools for proactive self-care and fostering a culture of support and understanding within the JGU community.

Accessible and Inclusive Support

The Sukoon Centre ensures mental health resources are equitable and accessible. Beyond free counseling and drop-in hours, we provide referrals to external specialists when needed. Support is tailored for diverse groups—international students, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those facing transitions—reflecting our commitment to inclusion. Online self-help guides and virtual support groups extend care to all, regardless of location or schedule. Testimonials like this inspire us: “I sought Sukoon’s services during a time of immense stress and personal loss while at RINPAS. After rehabilitation and therapy, the experience was absolutely pleasant—Sukoon truly brought me peace.”

Sustainability in Mental Health Practices

Our mental health efforts align with sustainability goals, fostering long-term resilience. Eco-conscious practices, such as digital counseling to reduce paper waste, complement our environmental commitment. Through Sukoon’s outreach and collaboration with local organizations, we extend mental health awareness to the Sonipat community, amplifying social impact and advancing health equity beyond campus borders.

A Holistic Commitment to Well-Being

Proactive mental health care at JGU, bolstered by the Sukoon Centre for Mental Health, is about building a resilient, supportive, and sustainable community. By blending accessible services, educational outreach, and compassionate care, we empower our members to navigate life’s challenges with confidence. Through this collaboration with Sukoon, students gain access to free-of-cost, professional mental health services, ensuring they can seek confidential support whenever needed—whether for academic stress, personal challenges, or emotional distress. Together, we’re shaping a future where mental health thrives, ensuring every student receives the care they deserve.
